The 'Dom' Way Round..

Motorcycle Insurers are all about 'talking the talk'. 'Insurance by bikers for bikers' they say, 'Insurance from enthusiasts'. How many though in reality can actually 'walk the walk'? Well Dom 'Ewan McGregor' Edwards has thrown down the gaunlet..

Dom's allowed us to publish a snippet from his diary- read this and look at the pictures in the slideshow at the top right. It's enough to make you want to drop everything and throw your leg over- in a motorcycling sense of course..

“Travelling right down the spine of France from Calais to Troyes then to Dijon - First two hours the rain came down - soldiered through the rain - never been so wet - got to Lyon - a warm 25C, here comes the sun and the ride - 700 miles down and still only half way, The next day down to Nice, and St Tropez – Sun, Sea and Motorcycles....

From Grasse started my the climb into the Alps, up to Mons in the Var through the national parks, up and up I kept going - on towards Grenoble and Switzerland - the previous day I had been at the beach, then today I was in the snow with goats and men that yodel !

At Grenoble started on towards Bourge En Bresse and the long stretch up towards Calais and the Euro Tunnel which indicated the start of the return - I had travelled 2500 miles, met a 1000 different bikers from many nationalities - the French (naturally as I was touring France) Spanish, Germans, Italians, Yankees & 'La Rozzers' !

All with their own story to tell, all with their adventures who then became a part of my own adventure, and all shared the same passion ... "motorcycles, the open road & the sense of no tomorrow... the freedom that only bikers understand "

I have seen, smelt and witnessed some amazing things on this trip, my favorite is the way Bikers "salute" each other - In England you Nod, in Europe you give the PEACE sign or kick your foot out to say "bonjour" My advice to other bikers thinking of this trip is Do iT ! Enjoy IT ! and there’s always a Petrol Station just round the corner .... I feel this is just the start of my adventures !”

Nice one Dom. I love it all, (except maybe the visualisation of being in the snow with goats and men that yodel- Marky Mark)

Now, I can't sign off without showing you these pictures (below). MCE Insurance were invited to the recent launch of the new Cafe Racer at the Ace Cafe in London.

This is no ordinary retro-styled motorcycle- it's a lovingly crafted, in your face 21st century street racer built by the Stonebridge Motor Company. Official specs have not been anounced yet but a little bird tells me it's been on the dyno at 135mph in 5th gear, with a gear to go!

The craftsmanship is a joy to behold- Ohlins chassis and suspension, a 15 litre tank, bespoke exhausts, exposed clutch unit and a mouth-watering chrome tank.

They are producing 100 of these. I want one, or perhaps two..

Dom 'Easy Rider' Edwards has had his initiation at his first Harley owners club meet (see the couple of shots below he managed to take before he was taken away and tattooed to within an inch of his life..)

By day we are purveyors of the UK's best and cheapest motorcycle insurance, by night (and weekends as it happens) we like nothing better than to throw our legs over a bike and go for a spin.

Metal? This week I need no prompting..

Well I'm still gobsmacked. Last week at Bassett's Pole I thought the MCE Insurance team had bagged possibly the finest and rarest machines in the area, with the awesome tricked up Hayabusas and B-King Turbo.

We turned up on Tuesday this week (20th May) with our helmet-polishing babes ready to push the MCE name in the Interest of Cheap Motorcycle Insurance and what did we come across?

A fully tricked up Boss Hoss! That's a 355 bhp, 5.25 litre (not a typing error- 5.25 litre!) V-8 beast. I have it on good authority that there are less than a dozen of these in th UK. See the video at the bottom of today's blog for the walk-around.

After photographing and videoing 'the Hoss' I staggered back to the MCE babes- still amazed by my find. I started talking bikes to a guy named Gavin (6ft 5 personal bodyguard, built like a brick ****house). 'You must ride a pretty big machine' I remarked. 'Yes, A Honda Rune' he said.

Boss Hoss, Helmet-polishing hotpant-clad babes and now a Rune? What an evening!They only made 1,500 Runes in the WORLD you know.

Gavin let me take photos and a bit of video- check out the bar on the right for the pictures in the 20th slideshow. If you click on any of the images you'll get the full size version.

Which do you prefer? Boss Hoss or Rune? I say Rune- and not just because Gavin was bigger than the Boss Hoss's owner.

And finally, a big thank you to all the MCE Insurance staff that made the trip to Bassetts Pole on some very nice bikes. (Note: got some good photos of camera-shy Emma from MCE this week- if the back of ladies heads is your thing!)

Bassetts Pole last night was again inundated with motorcylclists, scooter boys, quad riders, our MCE Insurance babes- even a chap walking a ferret, yes, ferret (or was it the Bassetts Polecat..) on a lead (see the video here).

I wasn't the only one videoing mind- The local constabulary were out with their cameras, doing their best to keep the bikes on two wheels...

So, last night we had the pleasure of the company of 2 lovlies, Adele and Sophie- wearing skimpy red shorts that wouldn't have looked any tighter if they were sprayed on.

But oh no, feedback from my last blog says that although you appreciate the ladies laid on by the UK's best purveyor of top quality and cheap motorcycle insurance, you wanted more metal.

If it's more metal you want, it's more metal you'll get! We've polished our first helmets!

Yes, Bassetts Pole was alive and kicking on Tuesday night! (6th May).

I (lucky photo & video man) was there to capture the lovely Kat and Adele attending to the helmet needs of dozens of bikers.

Here's Kat- pictured after giving this ZX9 owner's helmet a jolly good buffing.

MCE Insurance was proud to be seen at this event, after many years still possibly the top bike meet in the Midlands. The girls enjoyed it too, or so they told me whilst slurping the froth from their hot chocolate afterwards.

Buffed helmets, babes, frothy drinks, insurance, it's all to much for me. I'm off to upload some more photos and see if I've got any decent video footage to put on!

Girls polishing your helmet- for nothing!

Now- we've sorted the first few 'MCE girls will polish your helmet' dates-

MCE insurance (purveyors of finest quality and remarkably cheap motorcycle insurance) will be at Bassetts Pole, Sutton Coldfield on May 6th, 13th and 20th from 6.30pm til 9.30pm offering a FREE helmet polishing service. The service will be provided by two beautiful ladies who will wash away grime and flies and apply ‘Shift It’ professional helmet polish ensuring a first class finish.

Every motorcyclist who has their helmet cleaned will get a free ‘shift it’ visor wipe too. The girls will also be available for photo opportunities.

We want to have some fun with motorcyclists- so anyone that fancies a highly polished helmet can come to Bassetts Pole.

And oh yes, helmets are expensive so we're using top quality cleaning stuff- feel free to inspect the girl's equipment before starting..

New place for us

Phew! At last we're settled in our new premises in Rushden, Northants.

If you've ever wondered what our place looks like- here you go!

Our new high-tech centre will bring UK bikers great insurance deals more efficiently than you've been used to from any company!

We're also planning lots of fun stuff this year out and about- we'll keep you posted so watch this space (well, blog..)

Tomorrow we're meeting to discuss this, it's also going to include us hosting our very own bike meet- so if you fancy a rideout and a free burger with us again keep watching!
